These terms govern your use of Flare. By creating an account you agree to them. Please read section 3 in particular — it describes what Flare is not.
Flare is provided by Xuexuan Liu ("we", "us").
Contact: shally.liu@flareai.me
You must be at least 13 years old to use Flare. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use Flare only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
Flare helps you think through interpersonal communication. It produces reflections, possible interpretations, and draft replies based on what you write.
Flare is not therapy, counselling, or medical care. It is not a licensed professional, it does not diagnose, and it does not treat. Its output is generated by an AI model and may be wrong, incomplete, or simply unhelpful. You are responsible for deciding what to do with it.
Flare cannot help in an emergency. If you are in crisis or someone is at risk of harm, contact your local emergency services. In the US, call or text 988. Elsewhere, findahelpline.com lists crisis lines by country.
Nothing Flare produces should be treated as legal, medical, or psychological advice.
You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for activity that occurs under it. Tell us at shally.liu@flareai.me if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else.
One account per person. Do not share your account.
You keep ownership of everything you write in Flare. We claim no rights over your cases, notes, or the reflections generated from them.
You grant us only the permission needed to run the service: to store your content, and to transmit it to our AI provider at the moment you ask for a reflection, so that a response can be generated and returned to you. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
We do not use your content to train AI models, and our AI provider does not train on data submitted through its API.
Do not use Flare to:
Content you write will inevitably describe other people. That is the point of the app. Please write about them as you would want to be written about.
Flare performs automated checks for high-risk patterns, such as signals of risk to life, so it can show crisis resources or hold an unsafe output. When a check triggers, Flare may store a hashed case identifier and limited signal metadata for safety operations. The safety record does not contain your conversation text, so it cannot be used by an operator to read the conversation. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Flare is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not promise uninterrupted service, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue features. If we discontinue Flare entirely, we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your data.
Flare is free to use in this version. There are no subscriptions and no in-app purchases. If we introduce paid features in future, we will present the price and terms clearly before you are asked to pay for anything, and existing content will remain readable.
You may delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. This is immediate and irreversible.
We may suspend or terminate an account that materially breaches these terms. Where practical we will tell you why, and give you a chance to export your data first.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, nor for decisions you make in your relationships based on Flare's output. Our total liability in any circumstance will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the preceding twelve months, or USD 50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits. Where that is so, they apply to you only as far as the law permits, and nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Flare after that means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong SAR, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
